If you’ve been looking into getting treatment to straighten your smile, you may have heard about Invisalign. For those who haven’t, Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment which has grown in popularity among dentists and patients across the UK. This is due to its ability to align teeth, without the need for unsightly metal ‘train tracks’.
Custom fit for every patient, these braces are almost unnoticeable and help you attain results in a shorter period of time. Unlike traditional braces, these are removable, so you take them out when you want to eat or clean your teeth.
Our dentists at Enhance Esther Jones and Megan Fergusson will share their expert advice and information about some things you should know before going ahead. So if your smile is more crooked than you’d like it to be, please read on!
How it works
“Invisalign clear aligners are designed to apply the right amount of force to the right place at the right time based on the results you’re aiming for. The trays are made using SmartTrack material, which is more comfortable and provides a better fit and trimmed based on your gum line for comfort and appearance.
Why do it?
“Invisalign teeth-straightening is one of our most highly-requested treatments at the clinic, as an alternative to traditional methods. Our patients say the reasons they prefer this method are that the aligners are virtually invisible, they’re removable and easily transportable, and they’re not made of metal or wires, so they’re much more comfortable to wear.
How we do it
We examine your mouth to see whether your bone and dental health is strong enough for aligner treatment and discuss your particular complaints and wishes, In addition to a clinical examination we take x-rays and photographs to help plan your personalised treatment options. At Enhance we use a state of the art iTero digital impression scanner as standard ,so you will no longer need to have putty impressions. Your dentist will then create a unique, treatment plan, showing you how your teeth will move which can be presented at your second appointment.
Once you start treatment you will need to commit to wearing the Invisalign aligners for 20-22 hours per day , only removing them for eating and cleaning. You will wear a new aligner every 7-14 days until the desired result is achieved. Your dentist will be with you every step of the way to monitor your progress and ensure your aligners fit correctly with monthly clinic visits.
Treatment time is normally 6-9 months for iGo (front teeth cosmetic changes), and 12-18 months for full invisalign treatment. Your active treatment is always followed by a retention plan because as we all appreciate teeth have a tendency to move throughout life even after orthodontic treatment “.
